Clint Eastwood’s on-set affair that almost ended in real-life duel with sc0rned husband

Clint Eastwood – who will appear on screens in the 1976 classic The Enforcer on Channel 5 at 10pm this evening – is arguably the most well-known Western cinema actor, making his name with tough protagonists that aren’t to be messed with. However, before he picked up prominence as the cowboy anti-hero, Eastwood was allegedly challenged to a real duel by his co-star’s husband in 1968.

Eastwood had just sprung to fame in the mid-Sixties when he took a role in the 1968 musical Paint Your Wagon.
Jean Seberg co-starred with Eastwood in the Gold Rush-era musical, with multiple reports from the time detailing the pair’s passionate affair on set.
At the time, the Dirty Harry actor was married to his first wife, Margaret Neville Johnson, and Seberg was wed to her second husband, French novelist Romain Gary.
Seberg was allegedly smitten with the Gran Torino actor, and even explained to her husband that she had fallen in love with someone else.
Karina Longworth, the host of Hollywood history podcast You Must Remember This, explained that once Gary figured out it was Eastwood his wife was besotted with he challenged the actor to a duel, although she did not mention what weapons he suggested.

She spoke about the duel on the podcast: “They never went through with it, and instead Romain left, and Jean called her publicist to confess she was madly in love with Clint Eastwood, and she needed help announcing she was getting a divorce.”
Seberg allegedly believed Eastwood was equally devoted to their relationship and that it would endure long after the filming ended.
Although the actress divorced her husband, Eastwood didn’t display the same amount of devotion to his co-star, as he would stay married to Johnson until 1984.
In fact, at the time Eastwood – now 92 years old – already had three children, two other mistresses and a reputation as a serial cheater.
Eastwood’s first widely reported affair took place just a year after he got married and resulted in his daughter Laurie who was given up for adoption according to Eastwood biographer Patrick McGilligan.

Stuntwoman Roxanne Tunis also had a widely reported, 14-year-long relationship with the actor and fell pregnant with another daughter, Kimber, in 1964.
Eastwood’s first child with his wife, son Kyle, was born the same year as Paint Your Wagon.
By the end of filming, the Million Dollar Baby actor moved on almost immediately, leaving Seberg heartbroken and traumatised.
Jerry Pam, the publicist for both stars at the time, shared in 1981: “Once they got back to Paramount, it was as if Clint didn’t know who she was.
“Jean couldn’t believe that he could be that indifferent to her, after everything that had gone on in Baker.

“She was a very vulnerable woman, and it was a terrible trauma for her.”
Decades after his fiery affair, Eastwood admitted: “I adored her.
“She was very happy, and I don’t think many got to see that. We spoke of family, friends, relationships. She played an important role in my life.”
The years following the release of Paint Your Wagon were not kind to the actress, as she found herself one of the most high-profile names under the careful watch of the FBI as part of the controversial program COINTELPRO due to her outspoken support for civil rights groups.
In 1970, while still married to Gary, Seberg fell pregnant and the National Endowment for the Humanities reported that the FBI had tipped the Los Angeles Times that the baby was fathered by a member of the Black Panther organisation.

The actress reportedly experienced such severe distress in the backlash of the published rumour that she went into premature labour and the baby girl was lost.
A week after the child’s death, Alistair Cooke claimed in his Letters from America broadcast that Seberg had used a glass coffin “as a glaring proof that the baby was white”.
The actress’ lifelong battle with depression was widely reported and in 1979, a few days after the ninth anniversary of her daughter’s death, Seberg went missing in Paris.

John Krasinski’s Physique Intimidated Bradley Cooper Before Filming Clint Eastwood’s War Biopic

American Sniper was a 2014 war movie starring Bradley Cooper in the lead role. Being intimidated by John Krasinski for the muscular physique that he had, Cooper was quite worried about his own body for the 2014 movie.
Especially working with veteran director Clint Eastwood, Bradley Cooper left nothing to fate. With research and body weights in the mix, Cooper gave quite a big part of his life into making that body that he so desperately needed for Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper.

When Bradley Cooper Was Intimidated By John Krasinski!
Back in 2015, Bradley Cooper and John Krasinski shared the screen when they starred in Aloha. Since they were already working on the movie for quite a while, Bradley Cooper was indeed in awe of John Krasinski’s body.

As per IMDB, Bradley Cooper might have been so impressed or intimidated by Krasinski’s body that he did something out of the blue for his 2014 movie. Working alongside veteran director Clint Eastwood, Cooper did not want to leave any stone unturned. As per film trivia, Cooper hired the trainer John Krasinski to train alongside him for American Sniper.
Portraying the role of real-life American Sniper Chris Kyle, Bradley Cooper indeed gave his all for the movie as the 2014 film received several accolades and awards. As for the shared 2015 movie, John Krasinksi and Cooper managed to earn an average rating of 5.4/10 on IMDB, and the movie was not considered that much of a success!
Bradley Cooper Is Also Intimidated By Cillian Murphy

With Murphy giving an exceptional performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the chances of him winning an Oscar are pretty high. During Variety’s Actors on Actors, Bradley Cooper mentioned a very specific example that people seem was a reference to Murphy’s casting for Oppenheimer!
“I feel like our movies. You [Emma Stone] couldn’t have made ‘Poor Things’ if you didn’t have a tremendous amount of prep. It’s the same thing with ‘Maestro’. There’s just not…I watch your movie and your performance in it, there’s just no way…this wasn’t like you got a call and then in six months you gotta do it”.
The example of a call and then being on the job six months later is exactly what happened to Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer. With Cooper’s reaction, fans seem to think that the actor is actually jealous of Cillian Murphy and how his movie received critical acclaim. As for Clint Eastwood’s 2014 war movie, American Sniper received a rating of 7.3/10 on IMDB and 72% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The 2014 film is available to stream on Max in the U.S.

“Why, Clint, why?”: Creepy Plastic Doll in Clint Eastwood’s Oscar-Winning Film Mocked as a Halloween Prop By Critics

Director Clint Eastwood’s 2014 movie, American Sniper is often labeled as one of the most successful films in his filmography. The biographical war drama film was loosely based on the memoir American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History (2012) by Chris Kyle, with Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice. While the film was massively praised for its contents, there was something that did not sit well with some viewers: a very unrealistic-looking baby.

Many jokes were made on social media over the very obvious plastic doll, however, there was a valid reason behind it as the shooting laws in California did not allow the filmmakers to use a real baby. The film’s screenwriter/executive producer Jason Hall also acknowledged the fake baby jokes, explaining why they had to use a fake plastic doll.

Many will agree that American Sniper is one of the best movies in director Clint Eastwood‘s filmography. However, one thing that viewers couldn’t ignore was the fake plastic doll that was used in the scene where Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) and Taya (Sienna Miller) pass around their child while talking about Kyle leaving for another tour.
In a now-deleted tweet, the film’s screenwriter/executive producer Jason Hall explained why they used a fake plastic doll for the scene (via The Hollywood Reporter)
“Hate to ruin the fun but real baby #1 showed up with a fever. Real baby #2 was no show. (Clint voice) Gimme the doll, kid.”
Due to the fake baby, many critics questioned Eastwood’s direction, but they can’t be blamed as the babies indeed looked very fake, and one couldn’t just ignore it. Despite the fake baby, American Sniper received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor for Cooper, and won one award for Best Sound Editing.

Shortly after the release of 2014’s American Sniper, many viewers shared their opinions on the creepy fake plastic doll that was used in the movie.

I don’t get all the American Sniper love. But I do understand Bradley Cooper’s nom.He had to hold that fake baby and not laugh. That’s skill!
— Ruth (@BabyRuthCT) January 15, 2015

If that fake baby from American Sniper doesn’t get a Best Supporting Fake Baby nom, I will be outraged.
— CutPrintFilm (@cutprintfilm) January 15, 2015

1. that Jezebel piece is obviously joking 2. the baby in American Sniper may have been the most distractingly fake baby in movie history

Sources also revealed that the fake baby was used because of the shooting laws in California that stipulate that employees should be at least 15 days old. Babies from that age up to six months can be employed between 9:30-11:30 AM or from 2:30-4:30 PM in a day. One studio teacher along with one nurse must be on set during filming. Fans believe that these challenges must be the reason why Clint Eastwood decided to use a fake plastic doll instead.
