Clint Eastwood’s Co-star Was Poisoned, Strangled, and Nearly Decapitated While Filming Iconic 1966 Western

Clint Eastwood is one of Hollywood’s most masterful and skilled directors, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t acted in several iconic films as well. This included his legendary role as Blondie in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Unfortunately, one of his co-stars in the film suffered a lot during the filming process and almost lost his life.
Clint Eastwood has also been part of other iconic films such as Dirty Harry,  A Fistful of Dollars and many more. That said, there is no doubt just how dedicated he has been to all of his films so far in his career.

Clint Eastwood’s Co-star In The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Suffered Many Unfortunate Mishaps During Shooting
Clint Eastwood’s The Good, The Bad and The Ugly(1966) stands as the quintessential spaghetti western epic, with actor Eli Wallach delivering a memorable performance that made him an icon in films. However, behind the scenes, Wallach faced many dangerous situations that brought him close to life-threatening incidents. One such instance involved a misfired stunt with a horse, which dragged him dangerously across the set.

The truly death-defying scene unfolded as Wallach’s character tried to use a passing locomotive to break the chain of handcuffs after escaping a POW camp. The train, equipped with low steel steps overlooked during planning, was nothing short of death. During the scene, Wallach, chained to a soldier he had just killed, found himself in a life-threatening situation as the lowered metal steps on the oncoming train were dangerously close to decapitating him.
In another instance, Wallach was almost poisoned during shooting when he accidentally drank from a bottle of acid that a film technician had set next to his soda bottle – something that no one was aware of at the time.
In yet another near-mishap, Wallach’s character was supposed to be hanged, and the horse beneath him was intended to bolt in response to a pistol being fired. However, the execution of the scene didn’t go as planned. The horse instead galloped for about a mile with Wallach still mounted and his hands bound behind his back – strangling him and almost killing him in the process.
Clint Eastwood Didn’t Initially Want To Do The Film
By the mid-1960s, Clint Eastwood had already established himself in the Western genre and was seeking new challenges in his career. When initially asked to appear in the film, he declined for several reasons.

One factor was Eastwood’s disappointment in sharing the screen with two established actors, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef. He wasn’t happy about Wallach’s character being given the best dialogues. On top of that, Eastwood was offered lesser pay, as his status as a major star in the United States wasn’t really established then.
Thankfully, the producers were eager to have Eastwood on board for the film. Therefore, they offered him a $250,000 salary, 10% of the profits and a new Ferrari 275 GTB. In the end, Eastwood accepted and the rest is history.

Actors strike over, Clint Eastwood’s ‘Juror #2’ is filming again in Savannah. And you could be in it

With the months-long SAG/AFTRA strike over, movie productions are ramping back up in the state of Georgia.
And that includes in Savannah, where Clint Eastwood’s ‘Juror #2’ is set to continue filming this week.
It was announced back in May that Eastwood would film in Savannah, where he famously directed ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,’ which was released back in 1997.
Filming for ‘Juror #2’ took place during the summer, with Eastwood spotted working downtown and at a local restaurant.
But just as scenes were scheduled to be filmed in Pooler, the strike shut down all production.
According to Bill Marinella Casting, extras are now needed for various roles, with filming slated from November 19 to December 8.

Dwayne Johnson’s Man Crush Clint Eastwood Was an Unstoppable Force in Politics: Hollywood Legend’s Run as California Mayor Will Surprise You

While Clint Eastwood is known for his unmatched accomplishments in the realm of acting and directing, the Hollywood icon was also a force of nature in the field of politics. Like some other major Hollywood figures, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Unforgiven Star took an interest in running for mayor in his hometown Carmel-by-the-Sea in California in 1986.
Unsurprisingly, it wouldn’t take much effort from Eastwood’s side to win the office, but despite enjoying his 2-year long run as the mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, he had no big ambitions in politics.

Clint Eastwood’s Political Campaign Was Fueled by His Conflict With City’s Administration
Following his repugnance for the rules and regulations regarding building permits and zoning laws in his hometown, Clint Eastwood eventually decided to take things into his own hands. The dispute between him and the City’s administration would push Eastwood to consider running for Mayor, and just hours before the deadline, he would file the papers. And despite a pretty basic campaign, he would win the election by a landslide against Townsend, capturing 72.5% of the vote, as Eastwood claimed that he approached policies from a business point of view.
During his two-year reign, the Oscar winner worked closely with his community to strengthen it, making it easier to build or renovate and build property while also preserving The Mission Ranch. The former mayor of Carmel also opened the library annex, dedicated for children’s use, which is said to be his proudest accomplishment. Eastwood was quoted saying,
“We got rid of quite a lot of punitive attitudes on the council and helped people get things done. We got things built — beach walkways, a library annex which had been waiting 25 years, and so on. I approached it from a business point of view, not a political one.”
Like Eastwood, Dwayne Johnson, who has been pretty vocal about his admiration for the Western icon, also has been headlining in the political landscape for quite a while now.
Dwayne Johnson Seemingly Shutdowns Possibilities of Entering Politics
After making comments about potentially running for president back in 2017, like Eastwood, it was revealed that a major number of Americans would support his political campaign back in 2021 per poll. And recently, Dwayne Johnson revealed that he was approached by a political party to run for the job, however, the Black Adam Star seemingly shut down the possibilities despite being honored by the offer. Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, he said,
“I appreciate it and I’m f**king honored but it made me think, this is either an incredible thing and I’ve got some pretty decent leadership skills, or things are so f**ked up.”

While Dwayne Johnson might not enter the political landscape anytime soon like Clint Eastwood, he did manage to cement himself as one of the biggest names in Hollywood like the Man with No Name.

Listen to Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood’ from For All Mankind as Miles and Danielle go about their day

I always love it when a TV series not only licenses a cool song for an episode’s soundtrack, but then plays most of that song during it, rather than a 3-second snippet other shows play.
Case in point, the use of the virtual pop band Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood‘ on the latest episode of the Apple TV+ series For All Mankind this week — For All Mankind, Season 4, Episode 2, “Have a Nice Sol“.
That song began playing right after Miles learns he can’t watch the video sent to him by his family, as the bandwidth is bad and has been for weeks.
Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood‘ then plays throughout the next couple of minutes as we see Miles and Danielle going about their day, Danielle having a pleasant time while Miles not so much.

Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood’ was the band’s debut single
One of the many things that is cool about the English band Gorillaz is that it is not a band made up of people per se.
Instead, the band comprises four “virtual” musicians who were created by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and comic book creator and illustrator Jamie Hewlett.
Gorillaz’ first single ‘Clint Eastwood‘ was the debut release from their self-titled first album, with vocals provided by American rapper Del the Funky Homosapien alongside Albarn in the chorus.
Because the rapper is not always available, however, if ‘Clint Eastwood’ is performed live, other rappers fill in and take his place.
The song is so funky, catchy and upbeat, it became a big hit for the virtual band ranking at #4 on the UK Singles chart, then climbing high up charts in 17 other countries, including the United States where it ranked high on three charts, including the Billboard Hot 100.
Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood‘ also spawned several remix versions, and an animated music video that was nominated for several awards.
Since its release on the streaming platform in 2016, the video has had over 715 million plays on YouTube alone.
Listen to Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood‘ as played throughout so much of For All Mankind this week in that video, and via Spotify where the song currently has almost 720 million streams.
Be warned though, you play it once and it will then be bouncing around your head long after.
