A death row inmates chilling final words after his wife held up their dog moments before he died.Steven Lawayne Nelson, 37, was executed on 5 February by lethal injection in Huntsville, Texas after he murdered a pastor 13 years ago.He was convicted of beating, strangling and suffocating Reverend Clint Dobson, 28, during a robbery in 2011 at the NorthPoint Baptist Church. His secretary, Judy Elliot was badly beaten at the time, also but thankfully survived the attack.He originally claimed that he did not kill the victim and that he was simply the lookout for the robbery, claiming that both victims were on the ground when he arrived.He maintained his innocence the entire 13 years he was incarcerated and was denied each of his appeals over the years.He was executed by lethal injection at 6.50pm on 5 February.Before he died, he made several chilling comments, mostly to his wife, Helene Noa Dubois, whom he married just two weeks before he was executed.He repeatedly told Dubois that he loved and appreciated her while she watched his execution through the glass.She had brought her dog and while she held him up, Nelson said “Give Monkey a hug for me.”Speaking to his wife, he then said “It is what it is,” and told her to ‘enjoy life’.“I’m not scared, it’s cold s**t in here,” the killer added. “But I’m at peace, I’m ready to be at home. Let’s ride, Warden.”As he was injected, he said to Dubois to ‘let him go to sleep’ before mouthing the word ‘love’.His  ‘spiritual advisor’ Jeff Hood, who was present, shared : “It took them forever to declare that he had passed. He fought to the very end.”Previously speaking about his relationship with his wife, whom he meet while incarcerated, Nelson shared: “I’ve never had human contact with her, it’s always been behind glass.”“When someone can love you behind glass and not touch you, or see what your scent smells like, none of that, and still love you deeply, unconditionally, that is something wonderful.”He added that “I really don’t want her to see that, me getting pumped full of drugs and being overdosed with drugs to kill me, to make my heart stop.“I think that would leave a bad impression.
