If you spot this insect in your yard, you had better know what it is

If the rise of social media has given birth to one thing positive, it’s that people can now share information at an unprecedented pace.

This also means that warnings over potential dangers can make their way around within a very short amount of time, making us all – in theory at least – a little safer.

A few years ago, one such warning was issued by a mom whose son developed a strange, red grid-like mark on his skin after collecting some tree branches one day A short time later he was being rushed to the ER. Now, Andrea Pergola wants everyone to know something that could potentially save lives…

When Andrea’s 15-year-old son Logan was collecting tree branches as part of his volunteer work, he felt a momentary sharp pain when something stung him.

Within minutes, a red grid-like mark had appeared on his arm, and before long it had become a full-blown rash. The rash spread up his arm to his chest, and the area soon burned with an unbearable pain.

Not only that, but Logan experienced dizziness and grew pale. His mom washed the area and rubbed garlic on it in an attempt to pull the venom out (this is often said work with bug stings). Try as she might though, nothing seemed to have an effect.

It was Logan’s grandfather who located the bug that had stung Logan. He donned thick gloves, placed it in a bag and examined it closer.

It was a caterpillar, one both “cute” and fuzzy. It also transpired to be one of the most poisonous caterpillars in all of North America. After conducting some research online, Andrea realized she had to get Logan to the ER, and fast.

“Please research this caterpillar, be aware of it and make your kids aware of it,” Andrea wrote on Facebook.

“It is not native to Florida, but to Texas, and just happens to live here now. Please if you are stung or your kid is stung get to the ER and let them treat you. I can assure you — we didn’t realize he had been stung so many times and normal over-the-counter Benadryl would not have treated this at home.”

Ariana Grande signing fans pictures at the BAFTA’s

Ariana Grande has always been a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, admired for her talent, stunning looks, and relatable personality.

However, recent public appearances have sparked concern among fans.

“Scarily skinny”

Ariana Grande has been a household name ever since she rose to fame as a child star on Victorious. Over the years, she’s undergone various transformations, both professionally and personally. But her most recent change — marked by a noticeable weight loss — has certainly captured the attention of fans in a big way.

When Ariana Grande graced the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards, the internet quickly flooded with comments about her appearance once again.

The 31-year-old pop star can’t seem to avoid the endless online discussions about her body every time she steps into the public eye.

A recent photo of her signing autographs at the BAFTAs sparked fans to label her as “scarily skinny” and “terribly thin.”

“Terribly thin. I hope she can turn this around before it’s too late. I’m sure her organs are working overtime,” read one comment.

Another said, “She suffers from anxiety and this picture actually looks as if she is getting better. She was smaller than this at one point.”

“I hope she’s okay. She doesn’t look well,” another wrote. “…Something is up.”

Many quickly speculated that Ariana Grande’s appearance was the result of an eating disorder (ED).

”There is Hollywood skinny then there’s not ok skinny and she is not ok that is alarming skinny,” one commenter wrote.

“This is anrexia,” one person remarked, while another agreed, saying, “Damn, she’s anrexic. She needs help as soon as possible. Before her heart stops.”

“This is actually getting really concerning,” a fan added. “Every time she’s out and about she looks like she’s getting skinnier. To the people saying she’s fine, no she isn’t, this is the purest example of an*rexia there is.”

“She clearly has an ED and she needs help,” another said. “She’s scarily skinny these days … Atp she’s just skin and bones.”

Dr. Patrick Wanis, a behavioral and relationship expert, explained that much of the constant commentary on Ariana Grande’s appearance is driven by what psychologists call a “parasocial relationship”—a one-sided emotional attachment fans develop to a celebrity, even though the celebrity has no awareness of their existence.

“Ariana Grande became famous as a Nickelodeon child star around age 17. The public has grown up with her and sees her through the lens of nostalgia, purity, and a fixed image of youth,” Dr. Wanis shared in an email to Bored Panda.

“Accordingly, any physical change—weight loss, weight gain, or aging—is magnified because people expect her to remain the same forever. Her fans identify with her youth.”

The issue of weight loss in the entertainment industry has long been a topic of debate. Celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, and many others often make headlines for any weight fluctuations, whether gain or loss.

Celebrities, particularly women, often face immense pressure to meet unrealistic body standards, which can lead to unhealthy weight loss practices.

While Grande has not publicly addressed the concerns about her health, her fans are urging her to take care of herself and prioritize her wellbeing.

“The public expects female celebrities to strike an impossible balance—thin but not ‘too thin,’ toned but not ‘too muscular,’ natural but not ‘too real.’ This is an extension of the extraordinary pressure and societal expectation of women,” Dr. Wanis explained.

This “toxic mix of nostalgia, beauty standards, and social media culture” creates immense pressure on Grande and other pop stars to “remain frozen in time – eternally youthful, while still conforming to impossible expectations of unattainable standards if not perfection,” said Dr. Wanis, the creator of SRTT Therapy (Subconscious Rapid Transformation Technique).

Ariana’s journey has been an open one, from overcoming personal struggles to finding her voice in an often demanding industry. Her fans admire her resilience, but they are also quick to remind her that she deserves to be healthy and happy above all else.

As the discussion continues, it’s clear that her fans’ priority is her physical and mental health, and they will be waiting for updates from the star, hoping to see her flourish in every aspect of her life.

Colon cancer cells can now be transformed into normal colon cells thanks to new technology

Even though many cancer therapy technologies have been developed, all modern cancer medicines aim to eradicate cancer cells. However, this strategy has serious drawbacks, including as the potential for cancer cells to become resistant and reappear, as well as serious adverse effects from the death of healthy cells.

On December 20, KAIST (represented by President Kwang Hyung Lee) declared that a research team headed by Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho from the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering had created a novel treatment for colon cancer that can prevent side effects by transforming cancer cells into a state similar to healthy colon cells without killing them. Advanced Science published the research.

Istock

The study team concentrated on the finding that normal cells regress along their differentiation trajectory during the oncogenesis process. Building on this realisation, scientists created a method to produce a digital replica of the gene network linked to normal cells’ differentiation trajectory.

The group methodically found master molecular switches that promote normal cell differentiation using simulation research. Molecular and cellular research, as well as animal studies, have proven that when these switches were administered to colon cancer cells, the cancer cells returned to a normal-like condition.

Instead of depending on chance findings, this study shows that cancer cell reversion can be methodically accomplished by examining and applying the digital twin of the cancer cell gene network.

The results have great potential for creating reversible cancer treatments that can be used to treat different kinds of cancer. “It is a remarkable phenomenon that cancer cells can be transformed back into normal cells,” said Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho. This work demonstrates that it is possible to systematically generate such reversion.

He added, “By turning cancer cells back into healthy cells, this study presents the innovative idea of reversible cancer treatment. Through the methodical examination of typical cell development trajectories, it also creates the fundamental technology for determining targets for cancer reversion.

The National Research Foundation of Korea and the Ministry of Science and ICT provided funding for the study through the Basic Research Laboratory Program and the Mid-Career Researcher Program. The research results have been turned over to BioRevert Inc., which will use them to create useful cancer reversion treatments.

Our knowledge of mitochondrial function and how it affects health and illness can be improved by measuring cellular oxygen consumption rates, or OCR. Making sure OCR measurements are accurate is essential for lab managers in charge of mitochondrial research. OCR measurements can be distorted by factors including cell count, mitochondrial mass, and media components, which might mean the difference between ground-breaking discoveries and false findings.

Recent technological developments have made it possible to detect OCR in living cells during the course of an experiment in a long-term, high-throughput manner. This ability can offer fresh perspectives on how cells divide, metabolise, differentiate, and react to stress in dynamic environments.

This white paper offers a thorough overview of OCR normalisation techniques, including as flow cytometry, protein-based, DNA content, and microscopy methods. In order to account for factors and uncover significant differences from your data, it discusses both internal and external normalisation strategies. Your lab can improve the accuracy of OCR measurements and gain a better understanding of mitochondrial function and its role in both health and illness by implementing these best practices.

4th daughter dies after mom’s alleged murder-suicide

A fourth child from the same family has passed away days following an apparent murder-suicide involving Wyoming mother Tranyelle Harshman.

Tragic reports previously detailed how Harshman allegedly shot her four daughters before turning the gun on herself on February 10, 2025.

Brailey Blackmer, 9, Brooke and Jordan Harshman, both 2, and Tranyelle herself died from their injuries. 7-year-old Olivia Blackmer was airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City, with people all over the world praying for her recovery when the story gained international attention.

Sadly, father Quinn Blackmer posted to Facebook on Sunday, February 16, that Olivia had lost the battle for her life.

“I know this isn’t the update people were hoping for and we are absolutely gutted to make it, but we needed time to process what had happened before we let the world know of the tragic passing of Olivia yesterday (February 15) afternoon at 3:44 pm,” Quinn wrote.

The amount of devastation we feel and are going through is so much. Please give all famlies involved our time time and space during this extremely difficult time in our life.”

Quinn added that he was taking some small amount of solace in the fact that his daughters are together.

“The peace I find is knowing that my babies don’t have to be apart from each other and they can also be with their other sisters,” he said.

According to reports, Tranyelle Harshan, 32, was suffering from postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression. On the day of the alleged murders, she called the police to confess to having shot her daughters, warning them that she planned to then do the same to herself.

Tranyelle’s partner, Cliff Harshman, told the Cowboy State Daily that she had been suffering greatly.

“My wife was not a monster,” he said.

Of her health battles, he shared: “Most people don’t understand how that affects the brain. It’s a chemical imbalance. And it can be exacerbated by trying to fix it with medication.”

Rest in peace to the poor children taken from this world too soon.
